Egg scale

After Christel Nieske left her job at the hospital, she tended to the growing and selling of fruits and vegetables. Chickens were also part of her business. She used an egg scale to determine the weight class of the eggs.

Christel Nieske remembers:

“Five identical-sized eggs were wrapped side by side in newspaper and rolled together with the corners of the paper folded in, which created a stable package We built a huge coop near the chicken run in 1962-63 and kept about three hundred chickens there until the early 1970s. I made deliveries by foot twice a week to customers in the Wülfrath town center. I’d set off with two bags full of packed eggs and used the proceeds right away to buy the things we needed.”
