After his discharge, Burkhard Strelow returned to his hometown and resumed his work as a toolmaker.

At the same time, he started playing again in his punk band “Die Äh-xperten” ("The Eh-xperts"). He had founded the band with friends while still in the GDR, but had only performed once at a private party. Now, new musical horizons opened up: "By 1995, five years later, we had played over 200 concerts. Where you no longer needed a performance permit, but only the skill [...]"

His activities in the cultural scene were the starting signal for a new professional life. Today, Burkhard Strelow is self-employed in the event sector. In an interview, he says that he has closed the chapter on his punk days, but is still influenced by them today in some ways: “The idea of freedom has remained very strong [...] In my heart, I'm still a punk, you just can't see it.”
